Sri Lanka Cricket to donate US$ 2 million to country's health industry

Sri Lanka Cricket has pledged to donate US$ 2 million to the country’s health industry in order to purchase required medications. As a result, $1 million will be donated to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, which will be used to purchase necessary drugs for pediatric care. While $1 million will be provided to ‘The National Cancer Hospital’ to purchase crucial drugs for cancer patients’ treatment.
The country is going through one of the worst crises. The financial and economic conditions in the country have caused civil upheaval, and as a result, the countrymen are facing a shortage of food, electricity, and fuel for weeks. Members of the Sri Lanka Cricket, on the other hand, are trying their best to keep the game going for the players, and utilize the money for a good cause.
“Sri Lanka Cricket is extremely happy to make this donation at this moment of need for the country, and we will give our fullest support to our nation to overcome these challenging times,” Shammi Silva, Honorary President, Sri Lanka Cricket, was quoted saying as per their official release.

The finances will be given to the authorities of the respective institutions as soon as possible, due to the severe need for such aid. The donation was approved by Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee, which gathered yesterday (24th May).
“We feel, as an iconic sporting brand it is our responsibility to come forward to help our people, who have been supporting Sri Lanka Cricket and our players, unconditionally, at all times,” said Mohan de Silva, Honorary Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Sri Lankan players are currently touring Bangladesh for their Test series. While the first Test match was drawn, both the teams look forward to winning the ongoing second and final game of the series and grab some World Test Championship points.
