Sri Lanka find themselves in discomfort as Nuwan Pradeep gets ruled out of the Test series
Nuwan Pradeep was the only ray of hope in the Sri Lankan bowling line up in the first Test at Galle.
Miseries continue to pile upon the Sri Lankan team as far as injuries are concerned. After effective all-rounder Asela Gunaratne it is Nuwan Pradeep who joins the list and has been ruled out of the series. Pradeep who bowled a heroic spell in the first Test fell victim to a hamstring injury. The growing list of players picking up injuries is a worrying sign for the hosts and we are just into the 2nd Test.
Details:
The right arm bowler suffered the hamstring damage in the final hours of the first day’s play of the second Test at the SSC stadium in Colombo. The bowler just bowled 4 deliveries with the new ball before being taken off the field. The bowler kept himself away from taking the field on Day 2 and will undergo an MRI scan.
Nuwan Pradeep was the only ray of hope in the Sri Lankan bowling line up in the first Test at Galle. Though the Indian batsmen looked too good for all the other bowlers, Pradeep became a headache for the opponents and picked up a career best of 6 wickets for 132 runs.
Sri Lanka opted to go into the second Test with just a single pacer in the team and that was Nuwan Pradeep. With Pradeep being sidelined and Angelo Mathews unfit, the team will bank on the part time abilities of Dimuth Karunaratne.
Among the other injury concerns, Asela Gunaratne has already been ruled out for the next 6-8 months. The middle order batsman fractured his thumb on the first day of the inaugural Test match at Galle. Not only did he fracture his thumb, but also dropped the catch of Shikhar Dhawan who went onto punish the lions by putting up a score of 190 runs. Rangana Herath also picked up an injury on his finger which restricted him to just 9 overs of bowling in the second inning. He also did not come out to bat in the Sri Lankan second inning.
