Sri Lanka finding difficult to match India’s level: Sourav Ganguly
India thrashed Sri Lanka in the first ODI at Dambulla by 9 wickets.
Team India won the first ODI with utmost ease by a margin of 9 wickets on Sunday as the visitors outplayed the hosts in each and every aspect of the game. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also expressed that Sri Lanka is finding difficult to match India’s level and it is evident the way the visitors are playing and the hosts are just being humiliated in front of their home crowd.
Sri Lankan cricket team is already receiving a lot of flak from fans and the cricket experts for their never ending lacklustre performances. Even Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar had said during the Test series that the Indian Ranji Trophy teams would also beat Sri Lanka. Even the fans could not stand the defeat as they held up their team bus to express their displeasure and gave slogans to improve the standard of their cricket.
Talking about the run chase, Ganguly said that the difference between the two sides is massive and it’s going to be a cakewalk for the Indians just like the three-match Test series that they won 3-0. “They just finished it in 28 overs. It just shows the quality of the Sri Lankan attack. It’s been a one-sided series from Day 1 and it’s going to go that way because I don’t see any respite for Sri Lanka,” said the left-hander while talking to India Today.
Quality between the two sides is like chalk and cheese
He also talked about the differences in the quality between the two teams and said that India will win the series in a commanding manner like they won the Test series. “The gap between the two sides is too much. The quality of the Indian side and the quality of the Sri Lankan side is like chalk and cheese,” he said.
“Sri Lanka will find it very very hard to pick wickets. Even in the Test matches they were finding it difficult. Today they just rolled over Sri Lanka. The last 100 runs must have come off 50 or 60 deliveries and we’re not surprised,” Ganguly concluded.
