Sri Lanka will head to India for a five-match One-Day International series, stepping in at short notice after the West Indies abandoned their tour of India.

The West Indies are heading home following an internal dispute over pay-checks and the Indian cricket board (BCCI) has moved swiftly to ensure their team will be in action in November.

The series will begin on 1st November with a full itinerary to be revealed in due course.

The BCCI and SLC released a combined press release, which stated:

India to host Sri Lanka for a five-match ODI series in November 2014

Following the decision of the WICB to cancel its ongoing tour of India, the BCCI commenced discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket for a limited-overs series in India in November 2014.

Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed a five-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, to be played from 1 November 2014. The series promises to be an exciting one, with Sri Lanka placed 4th in the world rankings in ODIs. India is ranked 3rd, with only 2 points separating the teams.
The BCCI wishes to thank SLC for its swift response and for extending its support to ensure that the international cricket season is not curtailed.

The details of the venues and fixtures will be announced soon.

Sri Lanka and India have met 35 times in competitive cricket since 2010 and atleast 5 more matches are expected this November.

It must be remembered that Sri Lanka were not due to be back in action until they host England for a series of seven ODIs in late November and December.
