Skipper Dasun Shanaka’s blitz innings of 54 off just 25 balls inspired his side in avoiding a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20Is as Sri Lanka won the third and final match by four wickets against Australia. The Lankan Lions smashed 59 runs in the last three overs to chase down the target of 177 thanks to Shanaka’s assault. Now, the action shifts to ODIs as both the teams gear up to face each other in a five-match series starting on June 14, 2022.
Australia’s Test captain and pace bowler Pat Cummins has returned to the side after missing the T20 internationals while Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne are also back in the ODI set-up. The hosts will take the field with almost a similar squad from the T20Is with Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal being the ones who are back in the 50-overs squad. For the visitors, speedster Mitchell Starc, who missed the last two T20Is, is set to miss the initial half of the ODI series due to fitness issues.
Another pacer Kane Richardson has been ruled out of all the matches completely due to his hamstring problem. Captain Aaron Finch declared his side’s playing XI ahead of the first game with spinner Ashton Agar preferred ahead of Mitchell Swepson. After losing the 20-overs series, the hosts Sri Lanka will look to bounce back and present a stronger competition to the Aussies in this series. The tourists, who have always been a force in this particular format, would like to win yet another limited-overs series before the beginning of the Tests.
