Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be part of the first ODI series since the completion of the World Cup 2019 where both the teams had ordinary outings. Both the teams won three games apiece in the tournament while the fixture between them got abandoned. They will now clash off in a 3-match ODI series hosted by Colombo with the first game marked to be Lasith Malinga’s final appearance for Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Bangladesh will miss the services of their skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
All the key stats and numbers ahead of the 3-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh:
0 – Bangladesh is yet to win a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Lankan side won five of their seven ODI series against Bangladesh while the 3-match series at home in 2013 and 2017 ended in a draw (1-1).
0 – Sri Lanka has not won an ODI series at home since the start of 2016. Their last home ODI series win came against Windies in 2015 which they won 3-0. Since then, Lankans lost five ODI series of five matches while a 3-match series against Bangladesh in 2017 ended in 1-1.
In fact, Sri Lanka failed to win the first match of all those six ODI series. The home side lost the first game of the series on five instances while the first ODI of the recent most series against England got washed out after a brief period of first innings.
3-3 – Bangladesh and Sri Lanka won three matches apiece across their seven ODI meetings since the start of 2017. Bangladesh won only four of the 38 ODI matches against the Lankans till the end of 2016.
14 – Tamim Iqbal will be the 14th player to lead Bangladesh in an ODI. He featured in 201 ODIs till date but never been a captain. In fact, Tamim has led Bangladesh only once in the 330 International matches he played for them. The left-handed opener led his country in the 2017 Christchurch Test against New Zealand.
2014 – The last instance of Bangladesh playing an ODI match without both Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan in the playing XI was during the 2014 Asia Cup against Afghanistan. Bangladesh played 92 consecutive ODI matches with either of them in the XI.
2016 – The last instance of Sri Lanka winning a multi-game bilateral ODI series was way back in 2016 against Ireland in Ireland (2-0 in the 2-match series). Since then, the Lankans featured in 12 bilateral ODI series or more than one game and lost in 11 of those while another series ended in a draw.
3976 – Mahmudullah Riyad needs 24 more runs to become the 4th player to score 4000 runs in ODI cricket for Bangladesh.
5925 – Runs Mushfiqur Rahim has amassed in ODI format thus far. The keeper-batsman needs 75 more runs to become the 3rd player after Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan to complete 6000 ODI runs.
6871 – Tamim Iqbal has scored 6871 runs in his ODI career till date. The stand-in Bangladesh captain needs 129 more runs to become the first player from his country to cross 7000-run mark in ODI cricket.
