After letting the visitors get away with far too many runs for their liking, the Lankans followed it up with a couple of dismal performance with the bat. In reply to India’s first innings score, Sri Lanka lasted only 37 overs in the first innings to score 135 runs. Indian captain Virat Kohli asked the hosts to bat again, enforcing the follow on for the second successive occasion in the series.

The Lankan Lions offered a better resistance in their second innings and but eventually were bundled out for 181. None of the batsmen could even manage a score of above 50 in both the innings. This was the third occasion in the three match series where Kohli was in a position to decide whether to enforce the follow on or bat again.
