Sri Lanka vs India: Bhuvi's XI defeat Dhawan's XI in intra-squad match, Suryakumar sizzles with a fifty

India’s preparations for the series against Sri Lanka have started in full swing, as the Indian side indulged in an intra-squad practice match. The squad was divided into two teams, one captained by Shikhar Dhawan and the other captained by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The team led by batsman Shikhar Dhawan wielded the willow first and posted a total of above 150. And, the star performer of the side led by Dhawan was Manish Pandey, who scored a classy 63. But then, the Bhuvneshwar Kumar-led side had the last laugh.

Kumar’s side chased down the target set by the team led by Shikhar Dhawan. Batting sensations Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal put on a quickfire opening stand of 60 runs. Suryakumar Yadav also sizzled with the willow, scoring a half-century as well.

Paras Mhambrey summarizes the effort of the Indian players

Paras Mhambrey, who is a part of the Indian support staff summarized the intra-squad match that took place between the teams led by Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Mhambrey stated that the support staff is happy as the team has ticked all the right boxes that it wanted to, the intensity was good and the effort was spot on.

“We achieved what we wanted to, the effort was spot on. We are happy with the intensity and effort. We ticked the boxes and pushed hard,” said Mhambrey in the video that was posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Twitter.

The limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka will commence on 13th July 2021, with the first ODI slated to be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This series will consist of three ODIs and as many T20I matches between the two sides. India will be missing some of their regular players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant for this series.

In the absence of regular skipper Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan has been given the mantle of leading the Indian side. Pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be his deputy. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, and Chetan Sakariya will get a chance to showcase their prowess in this series against Sri Lanka.
