Sri Lanka vs India: Head coach Mickey Arthur and skipper Dasun Shanaka involve in a heated argument after loss in 2nd ODI
Arthur soon cleared that the chat was a healthy debate and nothing else.
Deepak Chahar turned out to be a hero for India in the second ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. It was the hosts’ game to lose after Krunal Pandya was dismissed in the chase. But Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar batted sensibly to stitch an unbeaten 84-run stand for 8th wicket and helped India seal the series. As the game went close, the Sri Lanka head coach Mickey Arthur seemed visibly frustrated with his team’s tactics.
He was not in agreement with a few field placements and the bowling changes it seemed and every now and then, was seen venting out his frustration. Sri Lanka haven’t won a game for quite a while now and his animated gestures in the dressing room were the testament of the same.
Even after the match, he stormed into the ground and was seen having an animated chat with the Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka. Arthur and Shanaka involved in a heated argument and the coach walked off disagreeing with the captain at the end of it. The video of the same has gone viral on social media after Sri Lanka’s yet another series loss.
Here’s the video:
Arthur clears the air on the argument
Former Sri Lanka cricketer Russell Arnold was quick to point out the argument as he felt such things should happen in the dressing room and not in front of the camera. He took to Twitter to express himself and wrote, “That conversation between Coach and captain should not have happened on the field but in the dressing room.”
However, Mickey Arthur responded to Arnold stating that it was just a healthy debate between him and the captain Dasun Shanaka and nothing else. He also advised everyone to not look more into it. “Russ we win together and lose together but we learn all the time!Dasun and myself are growing a team and we both were very frustrated we did not get over the line!It was actually a very good debate,no need to make mischief out of it!” he wrote in response.
