Sri Lanka (SL) and Netherlands (NED) locked horns in Match No. 19 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow where the Lions won by five wickets with 10 balls remaining and it ifs first win for Lions in the Tournament.
Sri Lanka entered their fourth World Cup match against Netherlands on the back of three consecutive losses in the ongoing World Cup. However, they managed to turn things around and beat the Dutch by five wickets.
Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat first. They posted a competitive total of 262/10, with Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) and Logan van Beek (59) top-scoring. Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, picking up 4/49 in 9.4 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka lost their early wickets of Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis. However, Sadeera Samarawickrama (91*) and Charith Asalanka (44) steadied the ship and put on a 110-run partnership for the third wicket. Samarawickrama continued to play sensibly and was ably supported by Dhananjaya de Silva (30) and Wanindu Hasaranga (28). Sri Lanka eventually reached the target with five wickets to spare.Samarawickrama was awarded the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten knock of 91*(107)
