Sri Lanka vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson registers a duck on the same day Don Bradman bagged a duck in 1948
The 29-year old has achieved this feat on the 71st Anniversary of Don Bradman's infamous duck in the last inning of his career.
After receiving lots of success in the last few months, Kane Williamson has finally fallen for a duck in the ongoing Test match of the New Zealand cricket team. The Kiwi captain, who has amassed 322 runs in his last 3 innings, failed to get better off the bowler and eventually got out without scoring a run on Wednesday.
The 29-year old has achieved this feat on the 71st Anniversary of Don Bradman‘s infamous duck in the last inning of his career. The day is written with black letters in the history of cricket, as it is the same day, wherein, the legendary batsman Sir Donald Bradman, played the last game of his career and missed the opportunity of keeping his Test average above the 100-mark, as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck.
Now, 71 years down the lane, on the same day, the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has also been dismissed on a duck for the ninth time in his Test career. The ace batsman, who has been awarded the Man of the Series award in the recently-concluded World Cup, misjudged Akhila Dhananjay’s slower delivery, and hence, got dismissed for a three-ball duck.
It was the first session of the first game of New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka. The match began with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat first. The Kiwis got off to a fine start as they didn’t lose any wicket until the first 50 overs.
The openers Tom Latham and Jeet Raval built a decent partnership of 64 runs for the first wicket. Howbeit, the trouble began when Akila Dhananjaya started to bowl his eye-catching spinning deliveries. In the 27th over, the lad, all of a sudden, picked Latham’s wicket on the 3rd ball.
What followed was another blow for the visiting side, as, in the same over, Kane Williamson was also dismissed for a duck. This almost broke the backbone of the batting line-up. The Lankan side ended this dream session with another wicket of Jeet Raval, on the last ball before Lunch.
