The 2022 T20 World Cup is slated to start on October 16 (Sunday) with the first match to be played between Sri Lanka and Namibia. This year, the tournament will start with first-round matches which include a total of eight teams.
All these teams have been divided into two groups and the top two countries from each group will qualify for the Super 12 stage which will start on October 22 (Saturday). A total of eight teams including India, Australia, Afghanistan, England, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh have already qualified for the main event.
Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2022 champions Sri Lanka will play its first match against Namibia and then face UAE in its second encounter to be played at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong on October 18 (Tuesday). Both teams have played only one T20 match against each other with Sri Lanka winning the match easily in the end.
Taking of UAE, in the second match of the 2016 T20 Asia Cup, the Island nation scored 129 runs in its allotted 20 overs which was defended by the Sri Lankan bowlers as they won the contest by 14 runs. Both Sri Lanka and UAE have not played any ODIs or Test matches against each other.
