West Indies are currently up in the 1ST Test of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The match which kicked off on November 21, is setting the action at Galle International Stadium in Lanka. However, the opening day itself has brought some worrying signs for the visiting squad. It has been reported that debutant Jeremy Solozano has been injured severely during a fielding attempt.

It has to be noted that Solozano received a blow on his helmet while fielding and was taken away from the ground on a stretcher. He has been moved to the hospital straight for further scans and CWI will update further on his injury. Meanwhile, Shai Hope is the substitute fielder at his place.

“Injury Update: Debutant Jeremy Solozano was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his helmet while fielding. He has been taken to the hospital for scans. We are hoping for a speedy recovery,” tweeted Cricket West Indies.

Talking about his injury, the Lankan skipper opened the face of his bat and the ball hit the grill of the helmet worn by Solozano, who was standing at the forward short leg region. Playing his debut game and being hit on the opening day has come as a worrying sign for the visitors.

Sri Lanka look in sublime touch as they chose to show up with bats first

Talking about the match, the host side won the toss and chose to show up with bats first. The side being led by Dimuth Karunaratne looked all in fine touch as they came to bat first. Karunaratne himself walked up with Pathum Nissanka to open the order and have set the tone for a golden start.

Currently, SL are playing on 110 runs without any loss and both the openers look in sublime touch. While Nissanka has collected 43 runs, the skipper has already started leading from the front as he has cruised through his half-century by smashing 59 runs (at the time of writing this piece).

The bowling unit comprising of Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Rahkeen Cornwall, etc are yet to have their maiden success in the game.
