England Women registered their 5th consecutive victory on the tour of Asia as they defeated Sri Lanka Women by a huge margin in the first game of the 3-match ODI series. After electing to bowl first, the Lankans couldn’t stop the England Women with the ball. Amy Jones scored a 71-ball 79 at the top while Natalie Sciver smashed a 73-ball 93 to keep England’s run rate over six.

Skipper Heather Knight scored 61 while Danielle Wyatt (47) and Tammy Beaumont’s (35) contributions helped the visitors finish on 331/7. Sri Lanka were reduced to 46/7 by 14th over before Nilakshi de Silva and Oshadi Ranasinghe added 88 for the 8th wicket. They finished with 159/8 from 40 overs as the rain revised the Lankan target to 314 runs from 40 overs.

Here are all the major stats and numbers recorded during the first ODI between England Women and Sri Lanka Women:

A record total:

331/7 – The total of 331/7 by England Women is the first ever 300+ total in Women’s ODI cricket in Sri Lanka. Their total of 295 in the 2016 Colombo ODI was the previous highest ODI total in Women’s cricket in the Island nation.

This is also the 2nd highest ODI total conceded by Sri Lanka Women. Windies posted 368/8 in their 50 overs during the 2013 CWC game against the Lankan Women.

331/7 – England’s total of 331/7 is the 2nd highest in Women’s ODI cricket without an individual century. Natalie Sciver was the top scorer with 93 for them. New Zealand’s 335/4 in the 2002 Amstelveen ODI against the Netherlands is the highest total in Women’s ODI cricket without an individual hundred. Katherine Pulford top-scored with a 95-run knock for the White Ferns in that match.

A birthday special from Ranasinghe:

1 – Oshadi Ranasinghe (51*) became the first player in Women’s ODI cricket to score a fifty on birthday. She celebrated her 33rd birthday on Saturday with a half-century which she reached by hitting a boundary on the final delivery of the game.

Only two players before Ranasinghe scored more than 30 in a Women’s ODI on birthday. Cecelia Joyce scored 33 on her 21st birthday during the 2004 Dublin ODI against New Zealand while Lydia Greenway made 36 against New Zealand Women during the 2004 Hove ODI on her 19th birthday only a couple of weeks after Joyce’ effort.

51* – Oshadi Ranasinghe became only the 2nd player in Women’s ODI history to score a fifty while batting at No.9 or lower position. India’s Pooja Vastrakar also scored 51 while batting at No.9 during last year’s Vadodara ODI against Australia.

A lower order resilience:

88 – The 88-run partnership between Nilakshi de Silva and Oshadi Ranasinghe is the highest for 8th or lower wicket in Women’s ODI history. England pair of Sarah Clarke and Nicky Shaw shared an unbeaten 85-run stand against Scotland for the 8th wicket during the 2001 Reading ODI.

113 – Runs aggregated by Sri Lanka Women after losing their 7th wicket; the most by any team in a Women’s ODI game. England aggregated 109 runs after losing their 7th wicket in the 2007 Chennai ODI against New Zealand and also during the 2018 Worcester ODI against South Africa.

159/8 – Sri Lanka Women’s total of 159/8 is the 3rd highest total in ODI cricket (Men/Women) after being seven down before 50. Zimbabwe made 175 against Afghanistan in the 2016 Sharjah ODI from 49/7 while India posted 164 against New Zealand in the 2005 Harare ODI after being seven down for 43.
