Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team is currently on their away tour to Australia for 3 match T20I and ODI series. The tour is heading towards its conclusion but the women from Island nation are still being far away from their first win till now.
Currently, Australia is the number one team in T20I rankings and have certainly shown their dominations in the T20Is and went for a clean sweep in the series. After that, the hosts have taken a lead by 1-0 in the 50-over format as well and still two games remaining under the hands of Sri Lanka and now the captain of Islanders has come down with a warning that they will do whatever it takes to win upcoming encounters against the hosts.
Sri Lanka women’s team captain looks in favor of doing Mankad against Australia
Sashikala Siriwardena has warned the Aussie women’s team that they have been practicing the mankading trick which they will use in the upcoming matches, and as per the rules the non-striker has to stay behind the line till the ball is being bowled, “Considering the new rules and regulations, the batters have to stay in the crease until the ball is released. We do it in training also, it might help us to get some run-outs also because they (non-strikers) have to stay there,” Siriwardena said as quoted by cricket.com.au.
On Saturday, during the 1st ODI, the off-spinner issued a warning to Ellyse Perry for leaving the crease before she had released the ball. Also, during the first T20I, the medium-pacer Udeshika Prabodani tried an attempt of mankading against the Aussie women as she stopped before bowling her delivery and pretended to throw the ball back towards the stumps at non-striker Ashleigh Gardner’s end.
Meg Lanning looks prepared for Sri Lanka ahead of 2nd ODI
When Australian captain Meg Lanning was asked about it and the warnings that were given to her players during early encounters. She feels that they are fully prepared for it and have asked their players to keep a close eye over it, “We’ve spoken about it, making sure we’re staying in our crease and watching the ball out of the bowler’s hand. It’s part of the game, we haven’t spoken a lot about it, we’ve spoken about what we can control and making sure we stay in our crease until the ball’s let go.” Lanning said as quoted by cricket.com.au.
The act of Mankading in the match is said to be against the spirit of cricket and recently Ravichandran Ashwin the captain of Kings XI Punjab had attempted this activity in a match against Jos Buttler and was criticized by the cricketing fraternity for his act but it looks like after struggling throughout the tour Sri Lankan Women’s are ready to give an attempt to Mankad against the hosts in order to win games.
