Sri Lankan cricketers to feature in second edition of 10PL
The entry is free and all matches will be held under Sharjah’s stadium floodlights.
After garnering a successful inaugural Ten Premier League (10PL) gully cricket tournament last year, the organizers are gearing up for a second season with wider participation. Held under the auspices of the Sharjah Cricket Council, the last edition saw 16 teams battling for a prize money of Dh 250,000 and the coveted title. The cash-filled league also have a huge sponsorship support from Danube, Domino watches, Sveston, Lama Tours, Pocari Sweat, Pacific Ventures, Radio4 89.1 FM, Tools Marcom backing the event and Cricon as event consultants.
The tournament is the brainchild of Arif Khan, Executive Director of Petromann who has understood the nuances of the gully cricket having played the game himself in the 1990’s in Mumbai. On their roadmap to extend gully cricket worldwide, the board has thus decided to include more teams than last year, especially from the subcontinent. The flagship event witnessed teams from India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman.
According to 10PL’s official website, Arif Khan said, “This format is very popular in India and the Middle East. So we thought we need to bring it to the people of the UAE in a real big way. There has never been an event of this magnitude held anywhere in the world with such a huge prize money on offer. We will have top players representing in this tournament and I’m confident the response will be amazing.”

He also went on to reveal that the upcoming edition in October will feature Sri Lankan stars Chamara Silva and Thilan Thushara taking part.
Sehwag wants the event to be a success
According to Gulf News, lauding the league, Virender Sehwag who is also the brand ambassador for the tournament said, “The nature and structure of the competition had caught my attention. I am one like many youngsters began by playing with tennis ball and want the event to be a success.”
Alongside the tournament, there will be entertainment for families and lucky draw for the spectators. The entry is free and all matches will be held under Sharjah’s stadium floodlights.
