T10 league which was played in Dubai where franchise based sides took part from various part of the cricket playing nations. Smaller boundaries which meant that a lot of sixes and fours which attracted fans towards the league.

Although If the news from Cricket Age to be believed, number of players from Sri Lanka who had featured in the league have not received their match fees.

Earlier before the matches, a team named Colombo Lions was named and was set to participate in the league which had Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dinesh Chandimal as their skipper as well. Players like Angelo Perera, Ramith Rambukwella, Shehan Jayasuriya, Vishwa Fernando who have represented the national side were also on the same team. At the last moment though, the name of the team was changed to Team Sri Lanka from Colombo Lions by the organizers who had earlier promoted the name as Colombo Lions.

Sri Lankan players ignored

While the icon players were paid handsomely during the 4-day long tournament, Sri Lankan players were not treated properly as per the reports. Icon players received a hefty amount of money (35,000 USD), international players got 25000 USD, First-class cricketers were paid 15000 USD and the emerging players got 10000 USD for featuring in the tournament. On the other hand, in comparison, the Lankans got nothing as match fees. All they got was an allowance of 250 USD per day.

No support from the board

Chandika Hathurusingha who took charge as the Sri Lanka coach was doing his first press conference. Sri Lankan Cricket Board president Thilanga Sumathipala was questioned by a journalist on the same payment issue in the T10 league. Sumathipala said that it was not a Sri Lanka team, instead, It was a provincial team. Can we say that player like Chandimal who is the Test captain of the national side didn’t need the board’s approval before joining such leagues or there’s something more to it and that is why the SLC president tried to dodge the question?
