Sri Lankan cricketer Chamara Silva, who was banned for 2 years for misconduct in a Tier-B first-class match earlier this year, is currently all over the internet. During a Mercantile match between MAS Unichela and Teejay Lanka at P. Sara Oval, the 37-year-old played a bizarre shot, only to get bowled. As soon as the bowler took his final stride before delivering the ball, Silva went behind the stumps, as it looked like an attempt to play an aggressive shot.

The batsman missed the ball completely and ended up getting bowled. The former skipper of the Panadura team, Silva has represented Sri Lanka in 11 Test matches and scored 537 runs. In ODIs, he has scored 1587 runs from 75 matches while in T20I, the right-hand batsman has fetched 175 runs from 16 outings.

A day to remember for Sri Lankan fans

Monday turned out to be an eventful day for the Sri Lankan fans as they not only witnessed this ‘out of the blue’ incident but saw their national team hung on to a draw after almost getting bowled out in an embarrassing manner. Chasing a target of 231 to win their maiden Test on Indian soil, Sri Lanka made a mockery of it and were reduced to 75/7 at the end of the fifth day’s play.

The Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal was happy with the competitiveness. He said “In these kind of conditions, toss was crucial. We fought hard and competed well. Till the last session, we fought well and played as a team. Unfortunately, the last 10-15 overs brought a lot of pressure but we played good cricket and competed well. Lakmal is unbelievable, especially over the last one or two years. He’s one who you can trust as a captain. Rangana scoring runs (laughs), he’s a fighter, unfortunately, spinners couldn’t come into the game. We’ll have to learn how to battle, especially in the second innings. In UAE also, we didn’t bat well in the second innings against Pakistan. If we can do that, we can do a lot better.
