Sri Lanka's Test skipper Dimuth Karunaratne arrested for drunk driving
According to the reports, the driver of the three-wheeler was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo.
Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has landed himself in severe trouble due to serious misconduct. While he is expected to be a role model and inspiration to the people, he himself has violated the rules and is behind the bars. Apparently, the left-hander was arrested by the police over a case of drunk driving which resulted in an accident.
At around 5:15 AM this morning (31 March 2019), the cricketer was driving his car in Kynsey Road, Borella. On the same road, his car collided with a three-wheeler and the driver had suffered minor injuries. According to the reports in Sri Lanka mirror, the driver of the three-wheeler was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo.
Not much trouble for Dimuth Karunaratne
It was revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and thus was arrested accordingly, stated the Police Headquarters. However, the police released another statement later where they informed that the accident was a minor one. They further stated that no one was injured during the accident. Dimuth Karunaratne could be fined in the court for drunk driving.
Dream start for Karunaratne as the Test captain
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to drop Dinesh Chandimal from the Test side for the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. Thus, in his absence, Karunaratne was handed over the responsibilities of leading the side in the Rainbow Nation.
Dimuth Karunaratne had a dream start to his captaincy career as the team won both the Test matches under his leadership. Sri Lanka became only the third country to win a Test series in South Africa since their re-admission and scripted history. For his scintillating batting, Kusal Perera was the ‘Player of the Series’.
