Srikanth Kidambi earns an autographed bat from MS Dhoni

Beyond a shout of a doubt, MS Dhoni is perhaps Indian cricket‘s most marketable person. While his contribution is unparallel, he has led the Indian cricket team to great heights and has transformed it in such a way that the men in blue are dominating world cricket like never before. ‘Mahi’ as he is popularly called has a huge fan base across the country. Even sportspersons from other games are a fan of the ex-Indian skipper.

Srikanth Kidambi, the ace Indian superstar is also a huge fan of MS Dhoni. Kidambi, who trains at the Gopichand Academy has improved his game dramatically over the years. The shuttler was also awarded the Padma Shri for his excellent performances in various tournaments this year including the Commonwealth Games. Kidambi had expressed his desire to receive a gift from Dhoni to MSK Prasad who promised to get him the gift if he was to ascend to the numero uno position in world badminton.

A moment to cherish

The ace shuttler had an excellent season which saw him rise to the top of the rankings in April. He won the Indonesian Open, Australian Open, Denmark Open and the French Open title in 2017.  After getting to the top of the rankings, his desire was fulfilled by the chairman of selectors who gave Kidambi an autographed bat signed by MS Dhoni himself. Kidambi became only the second Indian after legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone to get to the top of the male shuttler’s rankings.

“I went all the way to Pullela Gopichand badminton academy yesterday and surprised Srikanth with MSD’s gift to him as he stood by his word and became numero uno in world badminton” and also went on to mention that the 25-year old Hyderabadi shuttler was “thrilled and excited” to receive the special gift from his cricketing idol.” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by sportskeeda.com. It was one of those moments that Srikanth would never forget in his lifetime.

Kidambi is currently placed third in the rankings and will be hoping to bag a few titles and regain the top position. He has worked extremely hard over the past few years and needs to keep the good work going to further strengthen his position at the top.
