St Lucia Stars name the replacements for Lasith Malinga and David Miller
Mitchell McClenaghan and Jesse Ryder will be replacing Malinga and Miller
The upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League is all set to kick-start on August 4. St Lucia Stars have named the replacements for Lasith Malinga and David Miller, their shoes will be filled in by the Kiwi pair of Mitchell McClenaghan and Jesse Ryder.
Malinga had to be replaced as the Sri Lankan bowler has been bogged down with injuries. Miller, on the other hand, will be playing for South Africa A against India A for their four-day games.
Ryder last made his international appearance in 2014, after which he was kept out of the team due to alcohol-related issues. He has played 88 matches for the New Zealand team. He made his debut in 2008 and played his last international against India in January 2014.
However, he is a regular domestic cricket player, and in his last domestic game in March this year, he scored 109 runs to lead Central Districts to a victory over Canterbury. Ryder has also been included in New Zealand’s squad for the indoor cricket World Cup in Dubai which is later this year.
McClenaghan, on the other hand, has experience of playing in various domestic leagues and he also played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians lifting their third Indian Premier League trophy earlier this year. He finished as the team’s second highest wicket taker with a tally of 19 wickets. He has played 48 ODIs, 28 T20Is and 40 IPL matches. He has taken 54 wickets in the Indian T20 extravaganza.
