West Indies rope in Alzarri Joseph for the second Test
West Indies U19 World Cup winner Alzarri Joseph has been drafted into the West Indies squad for the second Test of the ongoing WI v IND Test series. Having lost the opening Test at Antigua, the West Indies selectors have opted to go in with a slight injection of youth. Joseph made a mark in the U19 World Cup with some wonderful performances, especially in the final against India.
The young pacer has also scalped 24 wickets in eight First-Class matches for Leewards Islands, with the best figures of 7 for 46. The Windies were thrashed out of sight by Virat Kohli and his brigade as the Indians claimed a massive innings and 92 run victory. Courtney Browne, the chairman of the West Indies selection panel stated that Alzarri Joseph is certainly ready to begin performing on the big stage. The presence of former West Indies great Joel Garner will also go on to help Joseph as he moves ahead in his career.
“We feel that Alzarri, who led the attack so expertly in the ICC Youth World Cup earlier this year in Bangladesh, will now benefit from the professional guidance of our coaching staff and the presence of fast bowling legend Joel Garner as manager,” Courtney Browne, chairman of West Indies selection panel said.
“As we develop our Test team, we see this as a positive step in the process. We would like to wish the team every success for the rest of the series.”
