India completed a 3-0 series win against South Africa after defeating them by a huge margin in the final Test match. The game went into the 5th day with South Africa’s blockathon. However, Indians managed to bowl them out in the final session of the game to complete the victory.

Here are the Statistical Highlights of the India v South Africa Test series, 2015:

337 – India’s win by 337 runs in the 4th Test match is their biggest win in terms of runs. Previous biggest was 320 runs against Australia at Mohali in 2008.

2006 – Last time when South Africa lost 3 matches in a test series was in 2006 against Australia in South Africa.

1 – Only 1-century partnership was recorded in this series. This is the first ever 4-match test series with only 1-century stand.

214 – Highest score for South Africa in this series. This is the lowest highest score for a team in a test series with at least 7 innings played. Overall, this is the lowest high score for South Africa in a 4-match test series.

62 – Wickets taken by Ravichandran Ashwin in Tests in 2015. He is the leading wicket-taker in Tests this year. This is also the record for 5th most wickets by an Indian bowler in a calendar year.

33 – Ravindra Jadeja bowled 33 maidens in South Africa’s 2nd innings. The last instance of a bowler bowling 33 or more maidens in a Test innings was Dilip Doshi in 1981. Interestingly, all 4 instances of a player bowling 33 or more maidens in a Test innings in last 50 years including Jadeja’s were by Indians.

32 – Matches played by Ravichandran Ashwin to win 5 Man of the Series awards. West Indian pacemen Malcolm Marshal and Curly Ambrose took 48 matches for bagging 5 Man of the Series awards.

5 – Ravichandran Ashwin is the 3rd Indian to win 5 Man of the Series awards in Tests. In overall, he is only the 19th player to win 5 or more series awards in Test cricket.

0.99 – South Africa’s run rate during their 2nd innings is 0.99. They played 143.1 overs for 143 runs. Previous highest overs played by a team with a run rate less than 1 is 90 overs was by Pakistan in 1955.

0.64 – Partnership run rate between AB de Villiers and Hashim Amal during their 2nd innings. This is the slowest partnership in Test history in terms of run rate with a minimum of 200 balls. Interestingly, de Villiers – Faf du Plessis and Bavuma – Amla partnerships stand 2nd and 3rd slowest partnerships respectively.

0.42 – Economy rate of Umesh Yadav in the 2nd innings. This is best for any pacer who has bowled more than 90 balls. In overall, Yadav’s economy is best in a Test innings among the players who have bowled more than 120 balls.

0.56 – Economy rate of Ravindra Jadeja in 2nd innings. This is the best economy rate for any bowler who has bowled more than 40 overs in an innings.

109 – Consecutive dot balls bowled by Ravindra Jadeja during South Africa’s 2nd innings. Most consecutive dot balls bowled in Test cricket is 137 balls by HJ Tayfiled of South Africa vs England in 1957. RG Nadkarni is the only other bowler who bowled more consecutive dots than Jadeja. Nadkarni bowled 131 dot balls in a row against England in 1964.

1984 – South Africa played 89 maidens during their 2nd innings in the game. First time since 1984 since a team played more than 75 maiden overs in a Test innings.

10.24 – Hashim Amla’s strike rate in 2nd innings. This is lowest strike rate for any player who played more than 200 balls in a Test innings.

19 – Runs scored by South Africa off the bat in 1st session on day 5. These are the fewest runs scored off the bat by a team in a full 2-hour session with more than 24 overs bowled. Previous fewest were 20 runs by New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Morutawa in 1992.

9 – For the 9th consecutive match, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up at least one 4WI. He has now equaled the previous best streak held by Bishan Singh Bedi.

14.78 – South Africa’s average runs for a wicket in this series is 14.78. This is lowest for a team in any series since 1912.

95 – Wickets taken by spinners in this series. These are the most wickets taken by spinners in a 4-match Test series. Previous highest was 92 wickets during India-Australia series in 2013 hosted by India.

60 – Runs scored by Faf du Plessis in this series. Among the players who have batted 7 or more innings in a series in Indian in top order (No.1 to No.7), 60 runs are the fewest by a player. Previous lowest was 86 runs by DW Randall of England during 1976/77 tour to India.
