Aaron Finch entered an elite club of achieving 10,000 T20 runs when he smashed 68 runs against Perth Scorchers in the 17th match of Big Bash League 2021. Australia’s limited-overs captain became the sixth batter in the world to reach the milestone. He joined the likes of Universe boss Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, Finch’s opening partner for the national side David Warner, and India’s Virat Kohli.
The Victoria batter became the fourth fastest to reach the landmark as he notched up 10,000 runs in his 327th innings. The Jamaica-born and the legend of T20 cricket, Chris Gayle is the fastest to the feat as he had amassed those runs in 285 innings. The run-machine and former T20I captain of India, Virat Kohli was second fastest as he got to the milestone in 299 innings.
Finch’s countryman and southpaw David Warner took 303 innings to register his name in the list. Pakistan’s veteran batter Shoaib Malik is fifth fastest as he scored 10,000 runs in 368 innings. Power-hitter Kieron Pollard took the most number of innings (450) to achieve the record.
Notably, the Aussie opener has the second-highest score in T20s of 172 which he scored against Zimbabwe at Harare in the year 2018. In 327 T20 innings so far, Finch has scored 10048 runs with an average and strike rate of 34.17 and 140.94 respectively. Finch has smashed eight centuries and 65 fifties in the most entertaining format of the game.
In the T20 internationals, the 35-year old is the fifth-highest run-scorer with 2608 runs to his name. His score of 172 is the highest by any batter in the T20 internationals. Captain Finch is also leading the way in run charts as he is also the highest run-getter for Australia in T20Is.
Aaron Finch has appeared for eight different IPL teams
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the T20 World Cup-winning skipper has played for eight different franchises over the years. Finch made his IPL debut in 2010 with the inaugural season champions Rajasthan Royals. Though he played just a solitary game for RR, it was defunct Gujarat Lions side for which Aaron Finch played the most number (26) of matches.
The other six teams for which the Aussie played were another defunct team Pune Warriors, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. In 87 matches, Finch has scored 2005 runs in the Indian T20 league with an average and strike-rate of 25.38 and 127.71 respectively. The right-handed batter has struck 14 half-centuries with the highest score of 88*.
Aaron Finch never looked back since making his debut in T20s as today he is one of the most prolific opening batter in the T20 and also in the 50-overs format. The above records do justice to the fact that the Victorian has become the sixth batter to touch the 10,000 runs mark in the T20 matches which is an outstanding achievement for a player who also leads his side in the Big Bash and the Australian national team.
