A day after leading his team from the front to a big win over the No.1 T20I side – Pakistan, Aaron Finch ran through the record books with a stunning knock. The Australian captain blasted 172 in just 76 balls with 16 fours and ten sixes to rewrite the T20I record held by himself. Finch dominated Australia’s total of 229/2 as only 56 runs coming from the other end.
All the major records that Aaron Finch created and broken during his mammoth innings:
1 – Aaron Finch’s innings of 172 is the highest individual score in T20I history surpassing his own record of 156 which came against England in 2013 Southampton T20I.
1 – Finch might be dismissed in the last over via hit-wicket falling short of the all-time T20 record score but became the first Australian to be dismissed via hit-wicket in the T20I cricket.
2 – Finch became the 2nd Australian to record fifty-plus scores in three consecutive innings in T20I cricket. Shane Watson was the first when he scored fifties in three consecutive T20I innings in 2011-2012.
10 – Number of sixes Finch hit in this game. He hit 14 sixes when he scored the record 156-run knock in 2013. No other Australian scored as many as 10 sixes in a T20I inning. Finch is the 2nd player after Chris Gayle to hit 10+ sixes in a T20I innings on two different instances.
16 – The 16 fours Finch hit in this game are the most by any player in a T20I inning. Three different players hit 14 fours in a T20I innings before today.
The 124 runs Finch scored in boundaries in this match are the 2nd highest in a T20I game behind 128 during his innings of 156 in 2013.
75.11 – Aaron Finch accounted for 75.11% of Australia’s total of 229/2 in this game. This is the highest % of team’s total scored by any player in a completed innings in all International cricket (Men/Women).
Deandra Dottin had 70.44% of Windies’ total of 159/6 when she scored 112 against Sri Lankan Women in a T20I in 2017. In Men’s cricket, the previous highest was 70% recorded by Kane Williamson who scored 42 out of his team’s total of 60 against Sri Lanka in the 2014 WT20 game.
75.11 – The 75.11% of Australia’s total scored by Finch is the highest by any player in a completed innings in Twenty20 cricket. Kamran Akmal scored 71.77% out of his team’s total of 209/0 when he scored an unbeaten 150 for Lahore Whites against Islamabad in the 2017 Domestic T20 Cup.
172 – Finch’s 172-run knock is the 2nd highest individual innings in all Twenty20 cricket behind Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175 against Pune Warriors in the 2013 IPL game in Bangalore. Finch also became the first captain to score 150+ in T20 cricket.
With his 2nd 150+ score in this format, Finch became only the 3rd player after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum to hit a T20 150+ on two different occasions.
