Records kept tumbling in front of Wasim Jaffer who produced marathon innings against Rest of India in the Irani Cup to put his team Vidarbha on top. Jaffer batted 431 deliveries for his 286 that included 34 fours and one six. He was finally dismissed on the 3rd day after adding one run to his overnight score. His 289-run partnership with Ganesh Satish for the 3rd wicket to help Vidarbha post 600+ for the first time.

1 – Wasim Jaffer became the first player from Vidarbha to score 250+ in a first-class inning. The previous highest individual score for Vidarbha in FC was 221 by Samir Gujar in 1991/92 against Madhya Pradesh.
Jaffer also became the first Vidarbha player to score an FC double century at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha. He now holds the record for the highest individual FC score at the venue by going past Hashim Amla’s 253 for South Africa in the 2010 Test match against India.
2 – Wasim Jaffer became only the 2nd player after William Grace to score a first-class double century before turning 20 and after turning 40. He scored a triple century at the age of 18 years and 242 days in the 1996/97 season. He missed out on becoming the first player to score an FC triple before turning 20 and after turning 40.
4 – Number of times Wasim Jaffer batted ten and more hours in a first-class inning. These are the joint most times any player batted ten and more hours in FC cricket. Six other players including India’s VVS Laxman and S Badrinath batted ten and more hours in four different FC innings.
40y 26d – Wasim Jaffer became the 5th oldest Indian player to score a first-class double century. Jaffer also became the first Asian player to score a 250+ in FC cricket after turning 40.
53 – The century by Jaffer in the game is his 53rd in first-class cricket and his 49th in FC matches in India. Only Vijay Hazare (50) scored more centuries than Jaffer in Indian FC cricket. This double ton was Jaffer’s 8th in FC cricket and his first since 2009.
286 – Wasim Jaffer’s 286 is the highest individual score in Irani Cup. He surpassed Murali Vijay’s 266 came for Rest of India against Rajasthan in 2012.
18110 – Jaffer became the 6th Indian player to complete 18000 runs in the first-class cricket. He completed the milestone when he reached 176 in this innings.
