All-rounder Anukul Roy was once again amongst the wickets against England as the India left-arm spinner picked up 4 wickets in consecutive matches in the Youth ODI series. Anukul recorded figures of 4/30 in the first match at Cardiff and followed it up with 4/27 in his 10 overs at the Canterbury in the 2nd ODI against the hosts.
He performed with the bat as well by scoring an unbeaten 43 in the first ODI to achieve the double of 40 runs and 4 wickets. Previously, only four players have achieved this double in a Youth ODI for India. His figures of 10-2-27-4 in the 2nd ODI reduced the home side to 175, who were cruising at 84/1 in 16th over.
By picking up 4-wicket hauls in consecutive games, Anukul Roy became only the 5th Indian player to take 4 or more wickets in consecutive ODI matches in Under-19 cricket. The first of the previous four Indian players to do this feat was Yuvraj Singh, who picked up 4 wickets in back to back games in the Under-19 World Cup 2000 hosted by Sri Lanka.
Pacers Yo Mahesh and Sandeep Sharma took 4 wickets in consecutive Youth ODIs for India in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Kuldeep Yadav, who recently became India’s first International chinaman bowler ever at senior level, picked four wickets in consecutive games when he played in the 2014 U19 World Cup held in UAE. No other Indian player has taken 4 wickets in consecutive Youth ODI innings they have bowled.
