Stats: Axar Patel completes 100 IPL wickets, joins Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo in elite list

Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel on Monday became only the second left-arm spinner to take 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 28-year-old went to the milestone by dismissing Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal with a sensational delivery. Mayank had no answers whatsoever against the incoming delivery, as his stumps were shattered. Axar finished with figures of 2/14 in his quota of four overs as DC won the crucial contest by 17 runs.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings’ Ravindra Jadeja is the only other left-arm spinner to have scalped 100 or more wickets in the gala competition. Overall, Axar is the 17th to get the landmark. Meanwhile, Axar burst onto the scene in IPL 2014, where he played an instrumental role in taking Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) to the final clash.

Axar isn’t a massive turner of the ball but his ability to bowl accurately has troubled the best of batters. Although there have been hiccups in Axar’s IPL career, he has eventually managed to make a strong comeback. Not to forget, alongside being a deceptive bowler, Axar is also a handy batter lower down the order alongside being a great fielder.

Notably, Axar also joined an elite list of all-rounders with this feat, as he became only the fourth player to have a double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in IPL. Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and Sunil Narine are the other three with the milestones.

Meanwhile, DC’s triumph against PBKS was crucial as they jumped to fourth place in the team standings. Hence, a win against Mumbai Indians in their last league stage should confirm their berth in the IPL 2022 playoffs. Needless to mention, Axar will be expected to continue his sensational run and take the Capitals over the line.
