Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan spoke a lot about the Bangladesh’s chances of recording a victory in the two-match Test series against Australia and proved it themselves by reviving their first innings in the first Test at Dhaka. After electing to bat first, Bangladesh were reduced to 10/3 before the 4th over with Pat Cummins taking all the three wickets with his express pace.

Tamim and Shakib, the stalwarts of Bangladesh cricket made their 50th appearance together in Test cricket in this game. The pair put on a huge stand of 155 runs for the 4th wicket to take the team total to 165/4 from 10/3. This is now the 2nd highest stand for Bangladesh for the 4th wicket in Test cricket behind Shakib’s stand of 165 with Naeem Islam against West Indies 2012 at this very ground.

Despite playing together in 45 Tests matches before this game, this partnership between the two left-handers in this game is only the 5th instance in Tests where the two batted together and the first time since November 2014.
