Stats: Bangladesh U19 and Afghanistan U19 record their lowest totals

The Afghanistan Under-19 team made a good comeback in the 5-match ODI series against the Bangladesh Under-19 team played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium which began last week. After losing the first game by a huge margin, the Afghan Youth returned well to level the series in the 3rd game. The 2nd match of the series resulted in a washout while the 4th Youth ODI is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.

After electing to bat first, Bangladesh U19 got off to a strong start as their captain Saif Hassan scored a run-a-ball 22. However, the Afghanistan captain Naveen-ul-Haq’s 3-wicket haul unsettled the home side who found themselves at 48/7 in no time. Their wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Ankon added 25 runs towards the end but couldn’t take his team to three digit mark as they were bowled for just 75 runs.

In the small chase, the Afghans were four down for 34 runs but an unbeaten 35 from Darwish Rasooli took them home in just 17.2 overs with five wickets in hand. The 75-run total is the 4th lowest total for Bangladesh in Youth ODIs and their 1st under 100 total at home. This is also the first below 100 total for any team in this format against Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan team was on the receiving end in the first ODI as they were bowled out for just 77 runs in response to the home side’s total of 222/9 after electing to chase. This was the Afghan team’s lowest total in Youth ODI cricket and one of the lowest totals by any side against Bangladesh. The 2nd Youth ODI which was restricted to 45 overs, got washed out after 43 overs of the Bangladesh innings in which they scored 182/9.
