Stats: Best bowling figures in the ODI cricket
Rashid Khan entered the record books with a marvelous performance against West Indies
Rashid Khan, the young leg-spinner from Afghanistan continues to create history wherever he goes as he took a 7-wicket haul against the West Indies in the first of the 3-match ODI series. He picked up 7/18 in his 8.1 overs to bowl out West Indies for 149 who were chasing a 213-run target to win the game.
Rashid was brought in to bowl in the 23rd over and was on a hat-trick twice in his first two overs. He completed his 5-wicket haul by end of his 4th over and came back into the attack towards the end of West Indies’ innings to add a couple of more wickets to his bag.
His bowling figures of 8.1-1-18-7 are the 4th best bowling figures in the ODI cricket. Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas holds the record for the best bowling figures in ODIs as he took 8 wickets for 19 runs against Zimbabwe in 2001, the only 8-wicket haul recorded in ODI history so far.
Shahid Afridi picked up 7/12 against West Indies in 2013, the 2nd best bowling figures in ODIs and the best bowling figures for a spinner in this format. Glenn McGrath’s 7/15 against Namibia in 2003 are the only other bowling figures in ODIs better than Rashid’s effort.

Rashid, in fact, became the first player from Associate nations to take 7 wickets in an ODI game. The previous best for an Associate player in ODIs was 6/28 by Josh Davey of Scotland against Afghanistan in 2015.
Before this game, the leggie held the record for the best bowling figures for Afghanistan in ODIs as he picked up 6/43 against Ireland earlier this year and became the first Afghanistan player to take an ODI 6-fer. Out of the six 6-wicket hauls in ODIs by Associate nation players, two belong to Rashid.
