New Zealand left-arm seamer Trent Boult registered one of the best figures in the history One-Day Internationals in the second ODI against Windies in Christchurch. He ended with the sensational figures of 7/34 in his quota of 10 overs while defending the target of 325 to win the series. He also became the second bowler from New Zealand after Tim Southee to scalp a seven-fer in the 50-overs format. However, the brilliant performance of the Kiwi bowler helped him enter an elite list of legendary bowlers with best figures in the history of the game albeit in ODIs.
Boult though missed out marginally from registering the best figures for his country as his new ball partner Southee holds the record with 7/33 against England during the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 at Wellington. The left-arm seamer swung the ball both ways with the help of wind during the second half of the game which left the Windies batsmen befuddled. His performance has rocketed him to the eighth position in the list of best bowling figures in ODIs just ahead of the legend Waqar Younis who had scalped 7/36 against England at Leeds way back in 2001.
Chaminda Vaas leads the charts
The heroics of Trent Boult has helped the statisticians recall some of the best bowling performances in the history of white-ball cricket. Chaminda Vaas from Sri Lanka is the only bowler to pick eight wickets in the history of ODIs. In 2001 he made history by bamboozling Zimbabwe batting line-up with figures of 8/19 in Colombo. Shahid Afridi is the next bowler on the list who was brilliant leg-spinner throughout his career. Windies was at the receiving end four years ago in their own yard when Afridi scalped seven wickets conceding just 12 runs.
Best bowling figures in ODIs
The latest sensation from Afghanistan Rashid Khan has also created a similar feat against the Caribbean nation with the figures reading 7/18 in their own den. India has been at receiving end twice as hey had to bear the brunt of Muttiah Muralitharan in 2000 and Aaqib Javed of Pakistan in 1991. But none of the Indian bowlers has made it to the list as the batting crazy nation has records of their own with the bat in hand. The list also features the likes of Glenn McGrath, Andy Bichel, Imran Tahir and Winston Davis who has enjoyed decimating the opposition line-up on their day.
