Virat Kohli brought up his 17th century in Test cricket just before he declared the innings to set a 550-run target in front of Sri Lanka in the first Test match of the 3-match series at the Galle. This was Kohli’s maiden hundred in the 3rd innings of a Test match as he possessed a sub standard record batting in this part of the match.
Kohli had managed to score only 4 fifties in the 25 innings before this Test in the 3rd innings and scored 678 runs at just 27 runs per innings while averaging over 45 in the remaining three innings in Tests. With this century, Virat became the first Indian captain to score centuries in all the 4 innings in Test cricket. He is overall the 15th captain to achieve this feat.
