MS Dhoni completed 600 catches as a wicket-keeper in his career across all formats in the ongoing sixth ODI against South Africa. Hashim Amla was his scalp as he was strangled down the legside by Shardul Thakur in the seventh over of the innings. Dhoni became the third wicket-keeper in the world to achieve the feat and is still going strong in his career. However, Mark Boucher is sitting pretty at the top of the charts with a staggering 952 catches while donning the gloves for his country.
The former South African retired when a total of 999 dismissals were against his name and missed out on the magical four-digit number. Adam Gilchrist is the second on this list with as many as 813 catches behind the stumps while playing for Australia. He achieved after playing 396 matches in his illustrious career. Dhoni reached the landmark in his 494th international game and has played most of the games on this list. There are also 174 stumpings to his name which are the most as well.
Who are the other legends in the list?
The former Australian cricketer Ian Healy also features on the charts and ended his career with 560 catches after 287 matches. Kumar Sangakkara was one of the best batsmen Sri Lanka ever had in the history of their cricket. He was also the best wicket-keeper as he has 539 catches to his name. He has also stumped 139 batsmen during his tenure behind the wickets for his country.
It is not surprising that MS Dhoni is on this list given his reputation as the wicket-keeper of India. He is performing his job exceptionally well and is most likely to continue until the World Cup next year in 2019. The way he guides the young wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav is impeccable and the bowlers themselves have credited the veteran for their success in their careers so far.
