Chris Gayle began the West Indies’ campaign in the World Cup Qualifiers with a blistering century in their opening game. Taking on the likes of United Arab Emirates, Gayle struck a 91-ball 123 with seven fours and 11 maximums. The 37-year-old gave a perfect platform for his team to post a 350+ total as he fell at the score of 191/2 in the 29th over.

Ricky Ponting also scored against nine full member countries, Scotland and Asia XI. Hashim Amla had centuries against Netherlands, Ireland and nine Test nations.
11 – Chris Gayle hit as many as 11 sixes during this innings. These are the joint 3rd most number of sixes by a player in an ODI inning for West Indies. Gayle hit 16 sixes during his double century against Zimbabwe while Xavier Marshall hit 12 sixes against Canada in 2008. Denesh Ramdin also hit 11 sixes during his 169-run knock against Bangladesh in 2014.
Gayle is only the 4th player to hit 10 and more sixes in an ODI inning twice. AB de Villiers, Martin Guptill and Rohit Sharma are the other three players with 10+ sixes in an ODI inning on multiple occasions.
