Stats: England breaks ODI records with a blistering batting performance

Words fall short of the performance England‘s batting display in the 3rd ODI as sent the Australian bowlers all over the park to race towards a huge total. Jonny Bairstow continued his rich form in the ODI format with a 92-ball 139 which was supported by Jason Roy’s 61-ball 82. Alex Hales carried the innings forward with a sparkling effort of 147 off just 92 balls coming into the game under the pressure of retaining his spot in the team. Eoin Morgan provided the fireworks towards the end as the hosts finished with a record total of 481/6.

All the stats and numbers from England’s record-breaking innings against Australia:

1 – England’s total of 481/6 is the highest team total in ODI format surpassing their own record of 444/3 came against Pakistan in 2016 which was also in Nottingham. This total is overall the 2nd biggest in all International One-Dayers (Men’s, Youth and Women’s) behind New Zealand Women’s 490/4 against Ireland earlier this month.

2 – England’s 481/6 is the 2nd biggest total in List A cricket behind Surrey’s 496/4 against Gloucestershire in 2007. India A made 458/4 against Leicestershire earlier today, which was the 2nd highest List A total.

Their total of 481/6 is also the highest in List A cricket after losing the toss. The previous highest was 439/2 by South Africa in the 2015 Johannesburg ODI as Windies won the toss and elected to bowl first only to concede a huge score.

2 – Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow brought up their centuries in 62 and 69 balls respectively. This is only the 2nd time that two individual centuries were scored in an ODI in less than 70 balls. New Zealand’s Jesse Ryder and Corey Anderson scored hundred in less than 50 balls against Windies in 2014.

3 – England’s top three scoring 80 and more is only the 3rd instance of a team’s top three scoring 80+ in an ODI inning. India’s top three scored 90+ against Australia in 2013 Jaipur ODI while South Africa’s top three scored centuries against Windies in the 2015 Johannesburg ODI.

3 – England’s innings contained three century stands which makes it only the 3rd such innings in the ODI cricket. South Africa against the Netherlands in the 2007 CWC game and New Zealand against England in the 2013 Southampton ODI had three century stands.

4 – England’s innings is only the 4th in ODI cricket with 150+ partnerships for the first two wickets. India had 150+ for their first two wickets in the 2009 Rajkot ODI against Sri Lanka and also against Australia in the 2013 Jaipur ODI. South Africa replicated this feat against Windies during the 2015 Johannesburg ODI.

5 – Five Australian bowlers conceded 70 and more runs in England innings which is only the 2nd such instance in the ODI cricket. Five South African bowlers conceded 70 and more runs in the 2006 Johannesburg ODI against Australia.

Three of those five Aussie bowlers conceded more than 80 runs making it the 3rd such instance in this format and also the 3rd time with two players conceding 90+ runs in an ODI inning.

21 – England innings contained 21 sixes which are the 2nd most in an ODI inning. New Zealand hit 22 sixes against Windies in the 2014 Queenstown ODI.

33.2 – England reached the 300-run mark by 33.2 overs which is the 2nd fastest team 300 in the ODI format. South Africa reached 300 in 32.2 overs while chasing 435 against Australia in 2006.
