Stats: England score 300+ for the 7th consecutive time in ODI cricket
England posted 386/6 in their 50 overs against Bangladesh at the Sophia Gardens.
England’s batting form continued in the World Cup 2019 as they posted their 3rd successive 300+ score of the tournament. After being put to bat, their openers made a cautious start as Bangladesh opened with a spinner. However, runs came from the other end as England kept going at six runs an over by 6th over and never looked back. Jason Roy scored 153 from only 121 balls as the hosts finished with 386/6 with contributions coming in from all batters.
They posted 311/8 in the opening game of the tournament against South Africa and nearly chased down Pakistan’s total of 348/8 despite losing early wickets. England finished with 334/9 as Joe Root and Jos Buttler scored centuries. With their biggest total in the World Cup in the game against Bangladesh, England became only the 4th team to post a hat-trick of 300+ totals in the competition.
Australia had as many as five in a row during the 2007 edition. Sri Lanka and Windies came close in the previous edition when they scored four and three consecutive totals of 300+ respectively. England might still need a lot for breaking the Australian record in the World Cup but they did break one in Cardiff match. England now has posted 300+ totals in each of their previous seven ODI matches; the first such team to do so.
The Three Lions finished with 340+ totals in the 2nd to 5th ODIs during the home series against Pakistan last month. The previous longest streak of 300+ totals in most consecutive ODI innings was recorded by Australia in 2007. Australia recorded a 300+ total prior to the CWC 2007 and followed it with five in five during the mega event.
Sri Lanka came close to breaking the Australian streak when they had five 300+ in as many ODI innings also in 2007 which included the then highest ODI total of 441. India had the perfect chance to own this record when they got 300+ scores in the first five games they played in 2017. However, bowling first against South Africa in the Champions Trophy game and reducing them to a sub-200 total brought an end to India’s streak.
