The big-hitting sensation from Windies, Evin Lewis set record books on fire during the 4th ODI game at The Oval against England. The 25-year-old struck an unbeaten 176-run knock in just 130 balls and was on course to become only the 6th player in ODI history to score a double century with four overs to be played. But Lewis was hit on the ankle while playing a shot which brought an unfortunate end to his innings as he had to retire hurt in the 47th over.
The 176-run innings from Evin Lewis is now the highest ODI score by an individual before the innings came to an end due to “Retire Hurt”. The previous highest ODI score before getting retired hurt was 163 by Sachin Tendulkar in 2009 against New Zealand when he suffered a blow to his stomach. Had Sachin didn’t get retired hurt in that game, ODI cricket could have witnessed a double ton a year earlier as five overs were still left to be played when Sachin walked off.
