Brisbane Heat’s batsman Brendon McCullum smashed a quick-fire half century at the Gabba, Brisbane against the Melbourne Renegades.
McCullum might not be disappointed that he failed to equal the BBL record as the fastest fifty in the league’s history is jointly held by Tim Ludeman and Chris Lynn off 18 balls. Ludeman, playing for Adelaide Strikers smashed an unbeaten 44-balls 92 against Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval in the 4th season of BBL. During his knock, he completed his fifty in just 18 balls and overhauled the fastest fifty record at that time off 20 balls, held by Hobart Hurricanes’ Ben Dunk, who scored it against Brisbane Heat during his 67-run knock in 3rd season at the Woolloongabba.
Tim Ludeman’s record was squared in the same season by Chris Lynn during his fantastic knock of 81, coming in just 35 balls for Brisbane Heat during their home game against Hobart Hurricanes. Lynn’s 18-ball fifty came on 15th January 2015; one day short of a year before he smashed 19-ball fifty in the last season.
Chris Lynn has also recorded a 21-ball fifty in the last season against Sydney Thunder at home during his quick-fire 75, which came off just 33 balls. A couple of days before Lynn’s 21-ball fifty, Daniel Christian did the same for Hobart Hurricanes against Brisbane Heat. Overall, only 15 fifties have been scored in less than 25 balls in Big Bash League.
