Stats: Hardik Pandya scores his professional career's maiden hundred in a Test match

Hardik Pandya made his Test debut without a century to his name in any format as he stood only next to Mohammed Shami in the India XI with a hundred in first-class cricket. However, Pandya completely utilized the situation in the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka as he scored his maiden century by smashing 107 runs alone in the first session of the 2nd day.

While breaking the Indian record for the most runs in a session before Lunch and most runs scored off an over in Test cricket, Pandya became only the 5th Indian to score his maiden century in first-class cricket in a Test match. The last Indian to achieve the feat was Harbhajan Singh when he scored back to back Test centuries against New Zealand in 2010.

The other three Indians to do the same are Vijay Manjrekar, Kapil Dev and Ajay Ratra. The overall list includes the famous names of Jack Russell, Ian Healy and Kumar Sangakkara.

Pandya’s previous highest in any format was 90 which he scored in a Ranji Trophy game. By scoring his maiden century in professional cricket for India, the 24-year-old all-rounder became the 6th Indian to score his career’s maiden ton in an International match. Chetan Sharma’s only List A century came in an ODI, which was his maiden century in professional cricket.
