Stats: Highest individual scores in ODI cricket for India in South Africa

The Indian captain Virat Kohli smashed his 34th ODI century in the ongoing third ODI of the series against South Africa in Cape Town. Even after the century, he refused to relent and batted through the innings for his team and helped them post a hefty total of 303 runs in 50 overs. In doing so, Kohli remained unbeaten on 160 off 159 deliveries with 12 fours and a couple of massive sixes. However, he also broke the record of the highest individual scores for India in the limited overs format in South Africa.

Virat went past the former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar who had scored 152 runs off 151 deliveries against Namibia in Pietermaritzburg almost 15 years ago in World Cup. The master blaster is again at the third position with the score of 146 off 132 with 17 fours against Kenya in Paarl in 2001. This was Kohli’s second ton in South Africa, the first of which came in the first ODI of the same series when he had smashed 112 in the chase of 270 in Durban only six days ago.

Another Indian legend in the list

Sourav Ganguly has featured in this list as many as four times as he loved South Africa. His highest score in the country is 127 against the home side in 2001 when he had pummelled the bowling attack by hitting 14 fours and five trademark maximums at the Wanderers. His other tons have come against the likes of Namibia and Kenya in the next couple of years itself.

Woorkeri Raman, the left-hander, is the only batsman to have gone past the three-figure mark in South Africa in the 20th century. He had smashed 114 off 148 deliveries with 6 fours and a six while chasing way back in 1992 at Supersport Park in Centurion. Virat Kohli has already scored a couple of tons and the way he is scoring his runs there is a possibility that he might score at least one more ton in the ongoing series.
