Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels’ 342-run stand not only set records for the opening wicket in List A Cricket but also broke a few records for any wicket in this format.
Their stand is the 2nd highest for the opening wicket and the 3rd highest for any wicket in List A format. The 342-run stand broke the record for the highest stand in List A Cricket in England beating 318-run stand between India’s Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in 1999 vs Sri Lanka at Taunton.

A total of 11 triple century stands in List A Cricket have been recorded so far with only 3 of them coming in ODI Cricket. India’s Rahul Dravid is the only player to feature in triple century stands on two different occasions in List A. Both those instances were recorded in 1999.
5 triple century stands recorded for the opening wicket while 4 recorded for the 2nd wicket. 3rd wicket produced 2 triple century stands in this format.
Among the top 20 stands for any wicket in List A, Ali Brown is the only other name to Rahul Dravid to feature twice. He was part of a 294-run stand in 2007 and a 286-run stand in 2002, both for opening wicket. Both the big stands he was part of have come while playing for Surrey.
Lumb-Wessels might have broken the least balls taken to bring up 300-run stand record for not only the opening stand but also for any wicket. However, ball data not available for the Marcus Trescothick and Craig Kieswetter’s 302 run stand in 2008, who might have taken 1-2 balls more or lesser for the milestone than Lumb and Wessels.
