The Worcestershire batsmen went berserk over the Northamptonshire bowlers for the 2nd time in two weeks as their openers helped them to seal a 9-wicket win chasing a target of 188. They needed only 13.1 overs to chase down the target as Martin Guptill came up with a 35-ball century.

His hundred is joint 4th fastest in the Twenty20 cricket, the 2nd fastest T20 ton recorded in England and the fastest by a New Zealand player in this format. He struck 12 fours and seven sixes during his 102-run knock which came in just 38 balls.

He shared a 162-run opening stand in only 10.1 overs as his opening partner Joe Clarke scored an unbeaten 61 off 33 balls with four fours and four sixes. Travis Head, towards the end, scored an unbeaten 9-ball 20 including the winning runs. The Worcestershire’s innings run-rate of 14.35 is now the highest in any Twenty20 innings of 150+ runs. They surpassed Guyana Amazon Warriors’ 14.29 when they scored 150/1 in only 10.3 overs during the 2017 CPL against Jamaica Tallawahs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 211/3 in only 15 overs at a rate of 14.07 against Kings XI Punjab during the 2016 IPL which stands at No.3 in this list. However, RCB’s innings has the highest RR among 200+ totals and the T20 innings that lasted at least 15 overs. Worcestershire scored 130/3 in the 9 overs-a-side game also against Northamptonshire two weeks ago at a run rate of 14.44. The famous run-chases by Netherlands and Mumbai Indians in the 2014 WT20 and IPL respectively appear in this list.

Worcestershire chasing down the target of 188 in only 13.1 overs is also the quickest 180+ run chase in Twenty20 cricket. Netherlands’ 190-run chase against Ireland in the 2014 WT20 for qualifying for the Super 10s round was the previous fastest 180+ chase. Among the 160-run successful chases, Worcestershire’s effort stands at second behind Wellington, who chased down a target of 160 set by Otago in just 13 overs earlier in the 2017/18 Super Smash.
