In a run feast at the Trent Bridge, Mohammad Amir extended his hand with the bat smashing the records by a No.11 batsman against the hosts in the 3rd ODI. After the Nottingham crowd saw the home team setting a record for the highest ODI team total, Amir became the first ever No.11 batsman to score a fifty in ODIs. He scored 58 in just 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes.
Record of the highest score by a no.11 was previously held by Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan itself. Akhtar scored 43 in 22 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes at Cape Town in 2003 World Cup which also came against England. Amir scored 44 runs in boundaries in his innings which itself eclipsed the No.11 record score.
Amir brought up his fifty in just 22 balls, breaking the fastest fifty by a No.9 or lower batsman in ODIs. The record was previously held by Brendon McCullum, who scored a 25-ball fifty while batting at No.9 against Australia at Christchurch in 2005.
Amir’s 58 is now the 2nd highest score by a No.11 in overall List A cricket. William Taylor scored 63 while batting at No.11 for Nottingham against Sussex in 1975, also at Trent Bridge. Interestingly, Trent Bridge has witnessed the highest score by a No.11 in Test cricket as well. Aston Agar made 98 for Australia against England in 2013.
