Team India continued their winning streak with yet another comfortable win over the Aussies to seal a series victory in the 5-match ODI series with two games to play. The home team won the Indore ODI by five wickets to continue their unbeaten run at the Holkar Stadium. This win extended India’s winning streak to nine ODI matches and 12 International games.
Starting from the Sri Lankan tour, India have won 12 consecutive Internationals – three Tests, five ODIs and one-off T20I in Sri Lanka and now three against Australia at home. India had never won more than nine Internationals in succession before this. Considering ODIs, India now have won nine in a row beginning from the final ODI in Windies. They now have equalled their longest winning streak in ODI cricket of nine games from the 2008/09 season.
At Bangalore, India will have a chance at bettering their winning streak in this format. They also had four other streaks of eight consecutive wins with the first of them coming way back in 1985. The recent of the four streaks was in 2013 where India faced the Windies and Sri Lanka in a Triangular series and later travelled to Zimbabwe for a 5-match ODI series.

With the win at Indore, Virat became only the 3rd Indian captain after MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid to record nine consecutive ODI wins. Kohli will be aiming to become the first ever Indian captain to win ten consecutive ODIs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home venue of his IPL team, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Dhoni’s 9-match streak was registered in 2008/09 while Rahul Dravid’s was achieved in the first half of 2006. India won eight in a row in 2006 before Dravid missed out the following game, and Virender Sehwag captained the team in losing cause. Dravid returned to the XI in the next game and led India and extended his streak to nine wins.
