Pakistan middle-order batting has always been a formidable one in the history of the game. Some of the greats of Pakistan batting have played in the middle-order. However, there is a unique list of instances when the core positions of the middle-order has failed collectively. Interestingly, veteran batsman Younis Khan finds his name on multiple occasions in the list.
The number 3 and the number 4 position of the batting order is considered to be the most vital ones in any lineup. However, in the history of the game, there have been 8 instances when both number 3 and number 4 batsmen have scored ducks in the same innings for Pakistan. Younis Khan and Babar Azam were the latest to join the list of such players.
Both Azam and Younis were sent packing on ducks in the first innings of the second Test against West Indies at Barbados recently. This became the 8th instance of both 3 and 4 position players getting a duck for Pakistan. The first such instance of the two vital position players failing for Pakistan in the history of the game dates back to the year 1967.
Saeed Ahmed and Majid Khan were the two batsmen involved in the Test game at the Oval in England. Almost 25 years later, the second such instance came to the fore. Asif Mujtaba and the then skipper Javed Miandad registered ducks against the same opposition England at the Lords in 1992.
