Stats: Jasprit Bumrah completes 100 ODI wickets
Bumrah got there in just the 57th match and is among the fastest.
Jasprit Bumrah became the 21st Indian bowler to complete 100 wickets in the ODIs on Saturday when he took the wicket of Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne in the final league game in ICC World Cup 2019. The Indian seamer has been impressive throughout this tournament, picking up 16 wickets so far. With his second wicket in the game which was of Kusal Perera, Bumrah overtook former India captain Sourav Ganguly who has exactly 100 ODI scalps in 308 games.
Bumrah also became the ninth fastest bowler in the world to complete 100 wickets in the ODIs by taking 57 matches to make the club. He bettered the record of South Africa spinner Imran Tahir who took 58 games. However, the fastest Indian bowler to reach the milestone is Mohammed Shami who took 56 games. Shami is the second highest wicket-taker for India in this World Cup with 14 scalps and he has taken just four matches to capture those many.
Rashid Khan still fastest to take 100 ODI wickets in just 44 matches
The record of being the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets in the 50-over format remains with Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan who took only 44 appearances. Rashid, however, has had a poor outing in this World Cup, his maiden one, and even found himself to be the most expensive bowler in a single match when went for 110 runs in nine overs against England at Old Trafford on June 18.
All the other nine bowlers in the top 10 to have achieved 100 wickets fastest than anybody else have taken over 50 matches. Australia’s Mitchell Starc took 52 games to make it. Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq took 53 matches and former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond took 54 games.
Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who took back to back fifers in this edition of the World Cup against India and Pakistan, also got there in 54 outings. Former Australia speedster Brett Lee took 55 opportunities to reach the century club while New Zealander Trent Boult, who has taken 15 wickets in this tournament so far, also took 56 games, as like Shami.
