Stats: Jasprit Bumrah completes 50 wickets in ODI cricket
By taking 28 matches for 50 ODI wickets, Bumrah became the 2nd quickest among Indians to reach the milestone.
Jasprit Bumrah has quickly raised since his debut to become one of the most valuable players in limited-overs cricket for India. The 23-year-old made in debut in Australia in January last year from where he matched up requirements for becoming an all conditions paceman for his team. Bumrah, with a weird action, has the skill to deceive the batsman with variations, especially at the death overs.
The Kanpur ODI against New Zealand was an example where he turned out to be India’s best bowler and in fact the best bowler of the game with figures of 3/47 in his 10 overs in the series decider. Bumrah gave away only five runs in the 48th over and eight runs in the final over when the Kiwis needed 15 runs. The right-arm pacer ensured he didn’t commit any mistake under pressure as India won the game by six runs and the series 2-1.
His bowling partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar has handed a decent number of wins already and could be crucial with some tough series limited-overs series coming ahead. The first of the three wickets picked by Bumrah in the 3rd ODI was Martin Guptill; his 50th wicket in this format. He later dismissed Ross Taylor and Mitchell Santner to increase his tally to 52 wickets.
By taking 28 matches for 50 ODI wickets, Bumrah became the 2nd quickest among Indians to reach the milestone. Ajit Agarkar needed only 23 ODI matches for completing 50 wickets and stands as the 2nd quickest in the world to the milestone. After a record-breaking series in Sri Lanka with 15 wickets, Bumrah looked set to reach the milestone in fewer than 28 games but he needed seven games for the remaining 11 wickets. The top four Indians to reach the milestone are pacers as Mohammed Shami and Irfan Pathan needed 29 and 31 matches respectively.
