Stats: Kieron Pollard's 19-ball fifty in numbers
Pollard departed after scoring 55 with three fours and six sixes.
A lot of fingers were pointed at Kieron Pollard, who was known as one of the most valuable and versatile players in the T20 leagues across the globe but his success rate has dropped down in T20 cricket recently. The West Indian proved his worth with a quick-fire fifty during the Bangladesh Premier League game for Dhaka Dynamites, where he scored a 24-ball 55 after coming to bat while his team was reeling at 41/5 in the chase of 157 against Khulna Titans.
Pollard made his intentions clear by smashing four sixes in a space of five balls in the 11th over bowled by Mahmudullah. He later hit Carlos Brathwaite for 20 runs in the 13th over striking two fours and two sixes and completed his fifty in just 19 balls. Thus Pollard recorded the joint 3rd fastest half centurion in BPL history.
Ahmed Shehzad scored a 16-ball fifty in 2012 while Seekkuge Prasanna got to his off 18-balls for Dhaka also against Khulna Titans last year. Earlier this season, Luke Ronchi also hit one fifty in 19 balls.
Fastest fifties in Bangladesh Premier League:
Pollard departed after scoring 55 with three fours and six sixes when his side needed 43 from 32 balls. The home team crossed the line with one ball to spare as Jahirul Islam hit a boundary on the penultimate ball after Brathwaite gave away only two runs in the first four balls in the final over. Brathwaite earlier scored his maiden fifty in Twenty20 cricket as his 29-ball 64* helped Khulna Titans finish on 156/5 with 77 runs coming off the last 6 overs.
Pollard’s 19-ball fifty is his sixth fifty that came off 20 and fewer balls in T20 cricket. Only Chris Gayle (7) and David Warner (6) have more than six fifties in 20 and fewer balls in this format. Out of those six fifties, Pollard took less than 20 balls on four occasions as many as Brendon McCullum in this format.
