Kings XI Punjab batsman Hashim Amla showed excellent batting skills when he plundered his second IPL ton of the season 10 of the tournament. Amla’s superlative ton came against the Gujarat Lions at Mohali. His knock of 104 went in vain as the Lions toppled the Kings in the match. Unfortunately, his earlier ton this season, against the Mumbai Indians had also gone in a losing cause.

In all, there have been 8 instances when an IPL ton has gone on to be in a losing cause. Hashim Amla has the dubious distinction of featuring in the list twice. The first batsman to have ever scored a century in the losing cause in the tournament was Andrew Symonds for the Deccan Chargers. His effort had come against the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural edition of the IPL.

Amla’s ton was the third century in a losing cause scored by a Kings XI Punjab batsman in the IPL history. While he bags two mentions, the first player to do was Wriddhiman Saha. Saha’s superlative knock had come in the finals of the 2014 edition of the tournament against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Also, it seems that the Gujarat Lions have been the party spoilers for many. Three of the centuries in losing cause has come against the Gujarat Lions. Virat Kohli’s ton for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2016 was the first instance. Rising Pune Supergiant player Steve Smith also registered his maiden T20 ton in a losing cause against the same opposition.

In all, there have been three overseas players being on the unfortunate end and 4 Indian players in the list. Here is the list of instances with IPL centuries in a losing cause:
